Korean Squash (Puthobak) Seeds
Puthobak 풋호박 (Cucurbita moschata) is also nicknamed ‘avocado squash’ in English because of its shape. Korean zucchini/squash has a very lightly sweet flavor and is best for making Hobak Jjigae but can be used in Korean pancakes and more.
Koreans love to add Hobak to everything but also love to steam the leaves to make ssam or seasoning them with Doenjang. Here’s my recipe for making Ssambap with steamed Hobak Ip (호박잎). Korean also love to sun dry the hobak and make Hobak Maleun Namul with them.
This Korean squash variety has glossy light green color, very tender flesh, and a wonderful, sweet flavor. It is easy to grow. Fruits measure about 4" in diameter and about 6" in length but will keep growing if you don't find it in time!
Plants grow fast and are ready to harvest in 2-3 months.
