Korean Eggplant (Gaji 가지) has almost black skin and is long. The Korean variety is called 흑수장가지 which basically means 'black long eggplant'. It is extra tender and sweet with no or very few seeds unless it was left too long.
- Annual
- Light - Full Sun
- Planting - start seeds inside 6 wks before last frost date. Transplant in late spring or summer when soil temps are above 75F. Also don't plant near tomatoes or pumpkins as they are all heavy feeders and they may compete for nutrients.
- Growing - keep soil warm (80-90 F). prepare well fertile, well-drained soil. Eggplants are heavy feeders so use fertilizer through the growing season. It grows upright and may need support as the fruits can weigh down the plant.
RECIPES - Gaji Namul . You can also slice and dry these eggplants to make dried namul.
